How to Shave Your Adam's Apple Without Causing a Massacre

Whether you're shaving your face, your neck, or your back, some spots are trickier than others. One of the most difficult areas to get smooth without drawing blood is the Adam's apple. Named after the original human, this bump can be found on the front of your manly throat. While it may look (a little) like an apple, it's actually cartilage designed to protect your voice box.

Your Adam's apple is much bumpier than the rest of your neck, and it demands special attention when shaving. Whether you're a pubescent tween or a big, hairy bear, the following methods are simple, safe, and (almost always) effective:

Pull your skin to the side: This method is the easiest, and it also works the best. Simply press and pull your skin to one side so you can shave the area without navigating the bump. If you pull your skin to one side and then the other, it's easy to cover the entire apple.

Lean forward and stretch: This method also works well, as long as you're comfortable with a little facial yoga. Lean your neck forward, lift your face to the sky, and feel the bumps (almost) melt away. The apple won't be 100% smooth, but it's much easier to shave safely.

Swallow and hold: This method is a bit more advanced, as you need to hold your breath. When you swallow, your Adam's apple rises and almost disappears from view. If you swallow and hold for a few seconds, you can shave this area without slicing your own throat.
